lake side for a short day session

Well on Sunday was the great north run and all roads were packed so we didn’t get to manage to come out but we got the opportunity to come out on Monday night after school for a few hour session on our very local lake this lake used to be a members lake but it isn’t any more it holds a large head of carp at all ranges and some high twenties to. We fished here last week and I lost a nice mirror and my dad had a small mirror. Since only fishing for a few hours we took the light weight option and fished a very wet and muddy peg which was just water and grass, bogged up but we fished there to maximize our chances. Both of us fished feeder gear and fished the same area since there isn’t any real pegs, well there is some but not many. We fished to the other side of the lake to the reeds I fished the far right in the corner and he fished in the middle and I went with corn on the hair and he fished with halibut. In the feeder I had a mix of pellets I had sticky baits blood work, dna slk pellet and some local lake brand pellets and to prepare them I just put them in a tub covered with water then drained them straight away and they become perfect feeder pellets. My rig was 12lb mainline and 10lb hooklenth a size 12 hook and just used a middy shot gun feeder with a korum quick change bead and instead of using hair stops I used a korum stop, can’t remember the name. well into the session I was casting out the feeder every few mins at the start to create a bed of bait and then I started extending the time and at first I had a huge wrap around on my tip and struck into it and tip bent round but the hooklenth snapped so I got heavier line and cast it back out and after that after a very long fight just giving it even pressure and slowly playing it I managed to get a 10lb mirror in the net and then the net handle broke so it swimmed back out and I had to play the fish again and he had to net the fish with just the net head. And that was a lovely dark mirror well pleased.

And after that using the same tactics I got a lovely 9lb common a real chunky fish with a big thick belly. And that was a lovely fish.

Over all I’m really happy with the way the session went and can’t wait to fish there again.

24hour session on the dam wall 5th september

Back down to wellham on the dam wall for a session, it was meant to be a 48hour session but I couldn’t make it Sunday due to being ill, so it had to be a 24hour session although my dad still went on Sunday as well. When I got there I give him full choice of where to fish and he picked the right side, because that had been more productive and the night before he had 3 fish. I got set up and on the left rod I put it near the trees because Kelly had noticed lots of silt getting swooshed up, so it showed the carp were active, on that rod I had a dna slk boilie topped of with pink corn and that was just a simple korda safe zone with a simple lead clip system with a short hooklenth and this week I tried something a little different, instead of just putting shrink tubing on the eye I put it all away round to about 2/3 of the way round and that give it a good hook turning point, and I just coupled that with a small pva bag of pellets which were the dna slk pellets which had been soaking in the matching glug for about 3 weeks, all I don’t to prepare them was put a few handfuls in a bag and just put some liquid in the bag but just enough to coat the pellets and after 3 weeks it had soaked in and left a potent smell, but I guess its what the carp like. On the right hand rod I had the exact same rig but on the hair I had a cell dumbbell and just used that the same way. not long into that I had a screaming run and I lost it a far way out but I quickly reeled it in attached a new bag and cast it straight back out. After about an hour and a half of fishing I was going to have a go of the boat and my alarm buzzed but just a line bite but right on the spot was a fish crashed and when I got to me rod it was a fish on and I played that and it resulted in a lovely 17lb 4oz common.
[img][/img]
After weighing that and taking photos and returning it I was making a new pva bag and my other rod screamed off and that fish just kept pulling and pulling, it had so much power and took me right round the swim and when I got that in it was another 17lb 4oz common, we knew it wasn’t the same fish since it had a deformed mouth and a split fin.
[img][/img]
After catching them I had no more action until dark and about 10 I had a run and it was a small common at 9lb 4oz on my right hand rod which was just straight in front of me.
[img][/img]
Then about 4 I had another run and it was a 8lb exact common, once again on the right hand rod.
[img][/img]
Then in the morning I was in bed and he was at the caravan with Kelly and I had a few beeps and they weren’t runs but just beeps and I went out to investigate and picked up the rod and the tipped pulled round and that resulted in a nice 9lb common, once again on the right hand rod.

After that I had no more action but still very pleased on a new pb and new wellham pb, cant wait to go back to wellham now.

Sunday 21st – Tuesday 23rd august 2011

Well me and my dad are back at wellham and were back for a 48hour session on stalking peg, after a talk to Kelly he said that on the surface has been producing well so, after setting up, he put a float out with a dog biscuit but didn’t catch anything, throughout the early afternoon we had nothing no bleeps and no fish but roughly 3:50pm i had a screaming run on the left side of the peg and the rod was roughly placed half way between the island and the margin so in the middle and that fishing produced to a lovely 9lb exact common, throughout the photo-ing he was good apart from the slap on my head.

The rig and bait I caught that on was a hooklenth of roughly 6inches and simply attached on through a simple hair rig and quite a big bit of shrink tubing to make the hook turn faster and the bait was a DNA slk 16mm boilie topped off with a piece of fake pink corn, and I just coupled that with a little pva bag full of DNA slk pellets.
At roughly 4:40pm on that afternoon I had enougher fish which was caught on the same rod and it weighed in at 12lb 8oz and it was a stunning fish

.....then at half 5 I had another screaming run on the exact same rod, but half way in it unfortunately spat the hook, since I had 3 runs on that rod i have changed the tactic onto the other rod with the pink corn and small pva bag and put it in the general same area.
Sunday night was a very peaceful sleep, no fish, no bleeps and it was pretty disappointing but the guys on the other side of the island had 3 carp and 3 eels. Since last night’s blank I put one rod on yesterday’s tactics and I put the other rod on a simple chod and just with a 15mm white chocolate sticky baits pop up. White chocolate pop ups have been a big part of my fishing and have been a part of my confidence, if i had to rely on one pop up it would defiantly be white chocolate.
On the Monday before breakfast I went onto peg 1 and 2 with a controller float and just used dog biscuits and I banded a chopped down pop up boilie, the result was plenty of fish cruising and fish taking my bait and I managed to hook one but it sadly came off.
Through tout the day on Monday I combined my tactics to zig, surface, chod and bottom baits but i had no success.
Anyway after my 48hour session I had the two and my dad had none, still really enjoyed the session.

31st july -- 2nd aug

Well its good to be back to wellham, we haven’t been for 8 weeks, we were supposed to come last week but we had car difficulties so we had to put it back a week so that’s why were here now. We were at wellham for a 48 hour session sun-tue, on peg 1 and 2. we arrived on Sunday around dinner time and we had a talk to Kelly and then we went to our peg and set up.
I was on peg one and my dad was on peg 2, I had one on the left channel and one straight ahead just of the side of the weed and I had both rods on chods, one with a 15mm white chocolate boilie and the other with a pineapple and butyric pop-up. Through the day I had no run/ linners at all which give us very low confidence but we stuck at it. Through out the night we had no fish but I was having constant line bites and it kept us up for a fair while. The next morning we were pretty disappointed but hey that’s fishing you get blanks. Throughout the day we kept on using the chods and the same spots and nothing but at dinner time-ish we were talking to a guy who has been on peg stalking and he had a fair few fish out in a short amount of time, well its stalking so what do you expect, we asked his tactics and he was using little dumbbell bottom baits with a sold pva bag full of pellets with a safety inline lead set up and he was fishing in the weed, so we adapted his tactics and we moved our rods, I had my chod still in the left channel but my right rod I put the rig he used and I plopped it in the weed, through out the night I had many line bites on both rods but no fish, but sometime in the night my dad had a 14lb common which was a stunning fish, that fish had buried its self into the weed so we had to give it slack line and then it just freed its self.
The next morning my rod was half on the bank sticks it had been pulled out, to be honest I was very lucky it hadn’t been pulled in but the line was tight and in the weed and I thought it was just chocked up but if you had give it slack line the rod would jolt and go tight so it was a fish, for a fair amount of time I kept giving it slack but nothing was happening so my dad kindly offered to go out in the boat and he went out and picked the weed of and the fish splashed and soaked him, what a good fish ha ha, but anyways he estimated the fish to be capable of 18lb but the line on my hook lenth just snapped and it was braid, it must have been rubbing g against something in the water to cause it to become weak so over all I was gutted. Also when getting out the boat the boat slipped back and my dad fell in, But not next week but the week after I am back on wellham and hopefully we will succeed in the quest to catch a few carp. Every blank makes your next fish even more special to catch.
Thank you

3rd aprill 2011

This week I’m back at silksworth for a carping session, this week the weathers really choppy it changes from rain to hailstone to hot sun then to cloudy and I think this has put the fish of. This week I’m trying another peg hoping to get to know the lake really well and what I’ve found is in this swim theres a weedy big which I have sytayed clear of.
Rigs and tactics are simple and on one rod I had vortex boilies on the hair attached to a pva bag full of vortex boilies and on the other rig I had a combi rig with my special half and half boilies attached to a bag of pellets. But later on in the session I changed the first rig to a zig rig set up about 2 foot deep. On the lake there has been a big big roach break out and there is hundreds of them so people who are fishing for them are having a great sport but at the same time the carp are not feeding and this is a big downside because I want to catch a carp not a roach or rudd.
Through the session I lost 2 carp I was gutted but at least I had played 2 fish, on both rods they were at the island and I had non-stop line bites which ment I was on edge always. Also this session I got recognised as “laura from megatightlines” it made my day being recognised but it was embarrassed. although I caught nothing I enjoyed the session

27th march 2011

Well this week am back at silksworth in another peg again and this time hoping or needing to catch a fish, so many weeks without a fish is so dreadful so hopefully am going to catch a fish.

So tactics were pretty simple as always on one rod I had a leadclip sytem with tubing and on one rod I had a leadcore home made leader with a safety clip, on one rod I had a combi rig attached to a ½ vortex boilies and a ½ pink pop up boilie, and on the other rod I had a combi rig attached to a halibut pellet topped of with some fake yellow corn. On one rig the boilies rig I had non-stop liners. since I was fishing in a very snaggy part next to the reeds I had to be on the rods instantly or I would have had a very little chance of getting the fish out. This peg is not my usual type of peg because its quite open and is quite near a island and only a little under arm chuch were  am used to doing a big chuck.

Overall I never caught any fish but I did enjoy being out on the bank fishing and enjoying the wildlife and the view.

Thank you for reading this week’s journal.

20th march 2011

Well this week am back at silksworth and am on a different peg from normal and its near the island since fish has been produced from there,

The rigs were simple this week and on both rigs used the simple tubing and leadclip system and both rigs were combi rigs and had two different bait setups. One rig I had 2 pieces of corn with a pva bag full of pva friendly hemp ‘n’ corn and on the other rig I had a vortex 16mm freezer boilie and attached to that was a pva bag full of crushed and whole vortex boilies, these boilies aren’t out yet but there from sticky baits and there still in field testing. This week I tried using two tactics to saee what would produce more, I put both baits in productive places but I only had line bites and the line bites were on the hemp and corn.
Overall I enjoyed the session but I would have liked to catch a fish.
